Dr. Hood is the Program Director and an Assistant Professor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. He earned his Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Physical Therapy from St. Joseph’s University (formerly the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science). He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University, a transitional Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Technology from the University of Florida.
With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Hood has worked in acute care, sub-acute, and outpatient settings. He specializes in outpatient neuro, with an emphasis on balance, falls, and concussion management. He is a Board Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist and Geriatric Clinical Specialist through the ABPTS. He is a member of the APTA's geriatric and neurologic sections, has served as an item writer for the geriatric credentialing exam, and has helped produce podcasts on vestibular-related topics. His areas of expertise include vestibular therapy, concussion management, balance and falls, and rehabilitation of neurological diseases. Dr. Hood has also served as a regional director for a large healthcare organization, managing multiple outpatient facilities, and has consulted with several healthcare organizations on developing vestibular programs and centers.
Dr. Hood's teaching responsibilities are primarily in the second year of the curriculum. He is the lead instructor for Motor Learning and Motor Control, Adult Neuro Differential Diagnosis, and Neurologic Clinical Medicine. He also teaches Pharmacology and Special Topics and serves as a faculty mentor for all four research classes.
Dr. Hood has presented research at national conventions on balance and falls and concussion management. He has also taught numerous continuing education courses for physical therapists and other healthcare professionals across the country on the management of dizziness, balance and falls, and concussion rehabilitation. He has co-authored multiple articles on concussion management, stroke rehabilitation, and gait speed in older adults and served on the Concussion Clinical Practice Guideline Knowledge Translation Taskforce for the Neurologic Academy of the APTA.
Originally from just outside Philadelphia, Dr. Hood is an avid fan of Philly sports. When he is not in the classroom, he enjoys exercising, watching movies, being outdoors, and spending time with his wife and three children.
